Galapagos Island Vacation

A Bird In The Bush – Galapagos Style

Blue-footed Boobies Unique To Islands

Galapagos Islands vacation is guaranteed to show you something you’ve never seen before on a trip. Actually, the Galapagos Explorer experience will show you many things you’ve never seen on a vacation before. The Blue-Footed Booby is a rare bird, indeed, and you are likely to see one or more when you go on either a hiking or walking tour while visiting the Galapagos Islands.

The Blue-Footed Booby appears on multiple islands in the Galapagos archipelago, with larger clusters on the western coasts in particular. While undertaking your tour by foot, you may come across some of their nests as they nest on the ground. If conditions are favorable, the species can nest year round so there will be a good chance you’ll encounter some of these birds.

Mature birds have large, webbed feet that are bright blue. When mating, they spread their feet as part of the mating ritual, lifting one foot and then another to attract a mate. The Blue-Footed Booby is a large bird, too, with an average wing span of approximately five feet, close to eagle size.

Their wings are long and narrow by design, as they are diving birds. You may see them airborne on one of your walking tours closer to shore when they dive for food. The Blue-Footed Booby is actually white with brown speckling on its back, brown wings, with only their feet being blue.

There are, however, other Boobies you may come across on your hike. The Brown Booby has a similar build but have brown bodies, a white underbelly, and cream-colored webbed feet.

Regardless, of the numerous species of birds you’ll encounter on a walking or hiking tour while on your Galapagos Islands vacation, you’ll have pictures galore to share with friends and family alike from this most unique and adventuresome vacation spot on the planet.
