Galapagos Cruises

Exotic Travel Through Deep Water

A Galapagos Experience Teaches Greater Depths

Deep water adventure on your Galapagos cruise will take your breath away, whether it’s by boat viewing or scuba diving. First there is a stirring. Then you’ll see an eruption of sorts, as a magnificent humpback whale breaks the water’s surface when you experience marine life in open waters near the archipelago.

July, August, and September are prime viewing months for the humpback whale found near the Islands. Remarkably, they hunt for food as a collective and, if you choose to see these magnificent creatures from the ship, you may see a school of them working together. Typically, they feed on herring but also on other marine life as well.

Their size, of course, is staggering. Humpbacks weigh between thirty and forty tons! Whether you witness them swimming near the Explorer II or view them by dive, there is a power and stillness that you will experience being in their presence that is like no other.

Hammerhead sharks are also prevalent in and around the Galapagos chain. If you are seeking adventure travel, sharing water space with hammerheads while diving can excite and terrify the heartiest of divers. They are amazingly nimble, slicing through deep water, and are guaranteed to provide you a story once back on the Explorer II or at home after your adventure.

Dolphins also can be viewed either by boat or through dive trips. While dolphins have a human-friendly reputation, they can show their fierceness with other species; specifically when in the same proximity of hammerheads. Amazingly, dolphins have been known to ram sharks in an effort to protect their territory, in particular, while protecting their young.

No place on earth offers this kind of adventure travel. Whether you choose to experience some of the deep water marine life from the deck of the Explorer II or by dive trip through one of our partners, your trip on the Explorer II for your Galapagos cruise will not disappoint.
